Our Story

Hi there! I'm Kasie Shafer and the owner of SAWDUST & Glitter DIY Makery. First off, I just want to say a big thank you! Being a small business that's just starting out, I really appreciate you taking time out of your busy day to show your support for our little makery.
Starting this business was a big change from being a mom and Physical Therapist, and I really couldn't do it without the love and support of my family. My husband supports all of my crazy ideas; sometimes I don't know how he puts up with me. My parents are an amazing duo who encourage me to chase my dreams. They are also are my woodworking team, and they tackle every challenge I throw at them. I can't tell you how many phone calls they've gotten asking, "Hey, do you think we could to something like...?" and yet they still answer my calls.
That brings me to my 4 beautiful children, Owen, Andrew, Ben, and Charlotte. I am blessed with a home full of love, laughter, and lots and lots of noise. With four kiddos all under 6, my life can be a bit chaotic at times. They have endless amounts of energy, which has made my coffee addiction even more necessary. I tend to be a bit of a Type-A perfectionist, and I can thank my kids for helping to challenge that side of me. I'm learning to embrace the crazy and go with the flow a bit more.
Throughout my life I've always loved crafting and making things with my own hands. Often times, I'll see something and say, "Oh I bet I can make that" and then I challenge myself to try. Crafting and creating something from nothing really lights a fire inside me. I find it to be a fun stress-reliever, and I want to pass that on to others.
I created SAWDUST & Glitter DIY Makery to give people a place where they could go to relax, have fun, and create something they could be proud of. I know not everyone is super crafty or creative but I wanted to have a place where they felt comfortable getting out of their shell a bit and trying something new. We've taken the guesswork out of our projects so you can enjoy yourself and not be worried about ending up with a Pinterest fail. There's nothing better than seeing someone who just finished their project smile and say "I can't believe I made that!"
It's my hope that my makery can be a home away from home and you feel like family. Know that you are more than just a number to us and you are really helping to make my dream come true!
